Italian Lakes & Verona

Date

June 15th - 22nd 2016

Duration

7 Days, 6 Nights

day 1 - Img

day 1

Wednesday June 15th

As always, we strongly recommend that you come to Milan the day before the tour, enjoy the city centre and a meal in one of the kosher restaurants.

Best is to stay at the Sheraton Hotel inside Malpensa airport. That way you can relax on arrival and need not get up too early to meet the group Tuesday morning. There is a frequent train service to and from the city center.

This will help you recover from the journey and avoid any risk of your missing the start of the tour. We cannot wait for late arrivals as we have a packed itinerary on arrival day and it is unfair to other guests. The cost of "catching up" to the group by taxi is MUCH greater than the cost of a night at the hotel!!

The night at the Sheraton is included in the tour price!! If necessary, you can arrive Milan MXP Thursday by 10am; there are flights from JFK & London.

day 2

Thursday June 16th

Meeting Point: Sheraton Hotel Lobby Milan Malpensa Airport 10.30am

From the airport we go straight to Stresa on Lake Maggiore where we'll embark on a tour of the lake. We'll visit the villa and magnificent gardens on Isola Bella, the "beautiful island", and as much else as time allows. Lunch on the adjacent Fisherman's island will keep us going until we reach our hotel in Verona in time for dinner.

day 3

Friday June 17th

We'll head to Sirmione this morning with its beautiful Roman Villa followed by a pizza lunch in the only kosher restaurant in the region.

After lunch, we'll head for Lake Garda: our bus will quickly bring us to the beautiful lakeside town of Lazise. After a short stop here, we'll enjoy the lake, stopping to visit some of the lovely small towns before heading back to Verona in time to do some retail therapy, relax or enjoy a massage before getting ready for Shabbat.

Candles – latest time: 8.50pm!!

day 4

Shabbat June 18th

We'll daven shacharit in the shul with what remains of this also tiny community, eat (several times) and relax in our gorgeous hotel.

Dinner / Seuda Shlishit will be followed by a guided walking tour of the town, after which we'll come back to our hotel for Havdala. We'll round off the evening with a drink in town!!

day 5

Sunday June 19th

We have lovely Mantova firmly in our sights today, where, among the monumental buildings, the beautiful but ultimately sad synagogue awaits our visit as do the couple who run the tiny community.

Hearing their story brings tears to the eyes, but it's the story of the glory that was Italian Jewry.

After lunch, we'll head back to Garda region, take bicycles and cycle for an hour or so along the cycle paths on the banks of the river, ending at most picturesque village of Borghetto, famous for its water mills and ancient bridges. Here we'll make a refreshment stop in a café surrounded by flowing rivers before returning to Verona to give you a chance to freshen up before dinner.

day 6

Monday June 20th

Today we'll visit Vicenza, the urban masterpiece of architect Palladio, and Padua, home and resting place of Rav Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, the Ramchal.

The Italian Synagogue of Padua is the only synagogue still in use: several flourished in the university town from the Renaissance through WW2.

On our way back "home" we'll have an adrenalin pumping karting experience with professional karts!!

day 7

Tuesday June 21st

The last of the Italian Lakes we visit is Lake Como. Today we have a morning stop in the gorgeous town of Bergamo before heading up to the Lake and the famous town of Bellagio. From here we will tour the lake and some of the small towns on its shores understanding why these 3 Lakes and Verona are so sought after as Vacation destinations!!

At the end of the day we'll enjoy dinner in one of the Kosher restaurants in Milan.
